What is white noise?
White noise is a random sound with approximately equal power per hertz across its generated frequency range. It is often compared to radio or television static. The steady background sound can make intermittent noises, such as traffic, office sounds, or snoring, less noticeable. How well it works depends on the volume and frequency content of both the white noise and the sound being masked.
Does it sound too harsh?
White noise contains more total energy in the higher-frequency octaves, which gives it a bright or hissy quality. Pink noise reduces in level as the frequency rises and often sounds softer and more balanced.Brown noise places even more emphasis on lower frequencies, giving it a deeper and less hissy sound.
