120 BPM

Beats per bar

Tempo

Tempo is measured in beats per minute, or BPM. For example, 60 BPM produces one beat per second, while 120 BPM produces two beats per second.

Beats per bar

Choose how many beats are grouped into each bar. The first beat of every bar is marked with a higher-pitched click.

Choose None for the same click on every beat. Choose 3/4 for a three-beat accent pattern commonly used when practising waltzes.

Common tempo markings

Traditional Italian tempo markings describe the general speed and character of a piece:

  • Largo: very slow
  • Adagio: slow
  • Andante: at a walking pace
  • Moderato: at a moderate speed
  • Allegro: fast
  • Presto: very fast

These terms do not have universally fixed BPM ranges. Their interpretation can vary according to the composer, musical period, style, and performance.
