Brown Noise
Listen to brown noise generated directly in your browser. Brown noise places more emphasis on lower frequencies than white or pink noise, giving it a deep, steady, rumbling sound. Press play, choose a comfortable volume, and set a sleep timer if needed. Keep the volume low, especially when listening for long periods.
Choose a timer for 15, 30, or 60 minutes. The sound begins fading out 10 seconds before the timer ends.
What is brown noise?
Brown noise, also called Brownian noise, is a random sound whose power decreases by approximately 6 decibels each time the frequency doubles. This gives it substantially more low-frequency energy than white or pink noise. The name comes from Brownian motion, not from the colour brown. Brown noise is sometimes described as resembling a deep waterfall, distant thunder, or a low continuous rumble.
Why do some people prefer it?
Because brown noise places less emphasis on high frequencies, it has less hiss than white or pink noise. Some listeners find its deeper sound more comfortable or less distracting. Brown noise has attracted attention as a background sound for concentration, relaxation, and sleep. However, direct scientific evidence for these benefits is limited, and responses vary between listeners. Choose the noise type you find most comfortable. Use a low listening level and stop if the sound causes discomfort.
