Tone Generator

Generate a test tone at any frequency from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Choose a sine, square, triangle, or sawtooth waveform. The audio is synthesized directly in your browser.

Start at a low, comfortable volume. Do not increase the volume sharply just because a low or high frequency is difficult to hear. The selected frequency is the frequency generated by the browser. What you actually hear depends on your speakers or headphones, device settings, playback level, and hearing.

Common uses

Use the tone generator to perform basic speaker checks, find resonances and rattles, explore crossover behaviour, tune instruments, or compare how different frequencies sound in a room. A frequency of 440 Hz is the standard reference pitch for the musical note A4.

Use a sine wave when you want to test one specific frequency. Square, triangle, and sawtooth waves contain additional harmonics, so they sound more complex and may excite several resonances at once.

This browser tool can generate useful reference tones, but it is not a calibrated measurement or acoustic calibration system.
