Question 1

How do I convert a WebM file to M4A?

Accepted Answer

Drag your WebM file onto the box above, or click Select file to choose it. Click Convert and wait for the progress bar to finish. Click Download to save the M4A file.

Question 2

Is M4A the right format for my WebM video?

Accepted Answer

M4A is a good choice when you need the sound on Apple devices or in Apple apps. WebM sound can't go into an M4A file as it is, and MakeAudio converts it to AAC. If you simply want to keep the original sound, WebM to OGG copies Opus sound without re-encoding it.

Question 3

Does converting to M4A lose quality?

Accepted Answer

A little. WebM videos usually store their sound as Opus or Vorbis, which M4A files can't hold. MakeAudio converts the sound to AAC at 192 kbps, which is high quality for music and speech.

Question 4

How big will the M4A file be?

Accepted Answer

The sound is saved as AAC at 192 kbps, which takes about 1.4 MB per minute. A 30-minute screen recording becomes an M4A file of about 43 MB. A 1-hour meeting recording becomes an M4A file of about 86 MB.

Question 5

Why isn't my video accepted?

Accepted Answer

This page accepts WebM files, whose names end in .webm. Most other videos are MP4, MOV or MKV files. Check the end of the file name and use the matching converter: MP4 to M4A, MOV to M4A or MKV to M4A.
