Question 1

How do I convert SRT to ASS?

Accepted Answer

Drag your SRT file onto the box above, or click Select file to choose it. Choose a text size, and check the preview. Click Convert and then Download to save the ASS file.

Question 2

Why convert SRT to ASS?

Accepted Answer

ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha) can set the font, size, color, outline and position of each subtitle, but SRT can't do most of that. Players such as VLC and mpv show ASS styling.

Question 3

What style does the new file use?

Accepted Answer

White Arial text with a black outline and a light shadow, centered at the bottom of the screen. Italic, bold and underlined text in the SRT file stays that way.

Question 4

How do I change the style later?

Accepted Answer

Open the file in Aegisub, a free subtitle editor, and use its Styles Manager. The style is also a single line near the top of the file, which you can change in any text editor.

Question 5

Will the text size suit my video's resolution?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The style is set for a 1080p frame, and players scale it to fit the video at any resolution.
