Question 1

How do I convert an MP4 file to OGG?

Accepted Answer

Drag your MP4 file onto the box above, or click Select file to choose it. Click Convert and wait for the progress bar to finish. Click Download to save the OGG file.

Question 2

Is OGG the right format for my MP4 video?

Accepted Answer

OGG gives small, good-sounding files for websites, games and Android. MP4 videos have AAC sound, which is converted to Opus for the OGG file. Apple Music doesn't play OGG files. If you want to keep the original sound exactly, choose MP4 to M4A.

Question 3

Does converting to OGG lose quality?

Accepted Answer

Very little. MP4 videos usually store their sound as AAC. MakeAudio converts it to Opus at 128 kbps. Opus sounds very good at this size, and the difference is very hard to hear in music and speech.

Question 4

How big will the OGG file be?

Accepted Answer

At 128 kbps, each minute of sound takes about 1 MB. A 4-minute music video becomes an OGG file of about 3.8 MB. A 1-hour lecture or webinar becomes an OGG file of about 58 MB.

Question 5

Why isn't my video accepted?

Accepted Answer

This page accepts MP4 files, whose names end in .mp4 or .m4v. Videos from iPhones are often MOV files, and screen recorders often save WebM or MKV files. Check the end of the file name and use the matching converter: MOV to OGG, WebM to OGG or MKV to OGG.

Question 6

Does the OGG file keep the title, artist and cover art?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when the video has them. Tags such as title, artist and album are copied, along with any cover art. Phone videos and screen recordings usually have no tags. To add or change tags, use Edit audio metadata.

Question 7

Can I convert only part of the video?

Accepted Answer

This page converts the whole sound track. To keep just one part, convert the video first and then cut the OGG file with Trim OGG file.
