Question 1

How do I convert an MOV file to AAC?

Accepted Answer

Drag your MOV file onto the box above, or click Select file to choose it. Click Convert and wait for the progress bar to finish. Click Download to save the AAC file.

Question 2

Is AAC the right format for my MOV video?

Accepted Answer

Choose AAC only if an app or device asks for .aac files. An .aac file holds the same kind of sound as an M4A file without the container around it. Fewer apps open .aac files. For most uses, MOV to M4A is the better choice.

Question 3

Does converting to AAC lose quality?

Accepted Answer

Usually not. Most MOV videos store their sound as AAC. MakeAudio copies that sound into an AAC file exactly as it is, with no re-encoding and no quality loss. Sound in another format, such as Dolby Digital, is converted to AAC at 192 kbps.

Question 4

Is the 24-bit sound from my camera kept?

Accepted Answer

AAC is a compressed format and doesn't keep the exact 24-bit samples. The sound still keeps its quality for listening. To keep your camera's 24-bit sound exactly, use MOV to FLAC.

Question 5

Why isn't my video accepted?

Accepted Answer

This page accepts MOV files, whose names end in .mov. Most other videos are MP4, WebM or MKV files. Check the end of the file name and use the matching converter: MP4 to AAC, WebM to AAC or MKV to AAC.
