This tool decodes your lossless FLAC and re-encodes it into an Ogg file using Opus, the modern successor to the older Vorbis codec. Opus delivers noticeably better quality per megabyte than MP3, especially at lower bitrates, and it is an open, royalty-free standard.
As with any lossless to lossy conversion, some audio data is discarded. Keep the FLAC as your master copy and use the OGG where small size matters.
Opus is the codec behind Discord, WhatsApp voice notes, and most WebRTC calls, and every modern browser plays it natively. Game developers like Ogg files for sound effects and music because the files are small and decoding is fast.
The main caveat is hardware: car stereos and older portable players usually do not support Ogg. If you need maximum device compatibility, convert to MP3 instead.
Opus. Many converters still write the older Vorbis codec, but Opus produces better quality at the same size and is what modern apps and browsers expect.
Not natively in the Music app. Apple devices prefer M4A. If your audience is on iPhones, the FLAC to M4A converter is the safer pick.
No. Decoding and encoding both happen on your device, inside the browser. Your music never touches a server.
