Audio bitrate checker

Upload an audio file and instantly check its real bitrate.

Reading the real bitrate

The checker parses your file and reports its bitrate, the data rate that loosely tracks quality within a codec. A "320 kbps" download that turns out to be 128 kbps re-labeled shows up immediately.

Remember that bitrates compare meaningfully only within a codec: 128 kbps Opus comfortably outperforms 128 kbps MP3.

Frequently asked questions

Can a high bitrate hide a low-quality source?

Yes. Re-encoding a 128 kbps file at 320 kbps yields a big file with the same poor source quality. Bitrate proves data rate, not provenance; a spectrogram view reveals more.

What bitrate counts as good?

For MP3, 192 kbps and up is solid and 320 kbps is the ceiling. For AAC and Opus, equivalent quality arrives at noticeably lower numbers.
